Baran Dance Mission

Baran Dance is a nonprofit contemporary dance company based in Charlotte, NC that creates and presents contemporary dance experiences for a wide spectrum of artist and audience demographics. We cultivate appreciation for and accessibility to dance performances and educational programs in a variety of forms: paid performance opportunities for professional dancers; free mentorship programs for emerging artists; professional development in the Charlotte dance community; and outreach classes in partnership with local immigrant and refugee support organizations. Known for creative collaborations with local musical, visual, and literary artists, Baran Dance utilizes bold physicality and poignant nuance to craft a uniquely human experience for existing and unrealized dance fans alike. Since its founding in 2012, Baran Dance has been committed to elevating bodies and creative voices from diverse histories, particularly minority and female identifying movement artists, and works to further accessibility, inclusion, and equity in contemporary dance throughout the Southeast and beyond.
